Brother Brennan

We had a fabulous trip to the Brother Brennan Educational Centre on November 13th and 14th, the students absolutely loved it! We did so many things, we hiked, we learned about orienteering, we made paper, we talked about climate change, we had a fire by the water at night and saw so many stars and constellations!

Here are some highlights of our trip.

We had so much fun! Leave a comment below telling us what your favorite part was.

See if you can remember the answers to the following questions.

What are the four layers of the atmosphere that we learned and discussed? Which one is the hottest?

What are the two most common greenhouse gases?

How does Brother Brennan get electricity? How do we get electricity at our homes or at our school?

What did you learn about climate change?

What is the difference between fir and spruce trees? How did you learn to tell them apart? (Think of the first letter of each tree)

Week of October 15-19

I will be having a tutoring session for Math after school on Tuesday. Please sign your child’s agenda saying you permit him/her to attend.

Please return all vaccination forms and picture cards if you have not already done so. The first round of needles will take place on November 8th. School photos will take place on October 16th!

French
We have been working on a variety of themes in French, such as school, “Me” (describing oneself, family members, body parts, etc.) and Halloween.

Baggie Books are going well however I would like to remind you that it is very important that your child come to school prepared with their book on their assigned reading day. Media Logs (see note in reading folder for details) have not been completed by several students. Every school night your child is responsible for watching 20 minutes of French TV or YouTube. After doing this it should be recorded in the log and a parent or guardian must sign this log. If one night is missed, the child should make up for it the following night. There are links on the website that your child can use for this purpose.
We will be performing a school play “Cest lHalloween” at the end of this month. Please ensure your child is practicing their parts at home.

Math
We are currently working on Factoring and Multiples as well as Prime and Composite Numbers in Math. It is important that your child reviews their Math notes and work at home. There are several strategies for factoring and finding multiples that we have been working on. The links below for Math are excellent for extra practice, for fun or for reinforcement.

Science
We will continue to look at classification systems as we explore vertebrates (mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, reptiles) and invertebrates (arthropods or “other invertebrates“).
